Mango Madness

fbmember

Mango Madness

Every June The Studios of Key West has a show in their main gallery that highlights the talents of its artist members and celebrates the start of mango season here in Key West.  The title of the show is, of course, Mango Madness.

To add some extra fun to the prep for this show two other TSKW members, David Meier and Pam Hobbs, joined me in my studio to paint together for the show.

When David presented this idea to Pam and I we said, "Yeah! For Sure."

It turned out to be a great day of painting.

Painting is often a very solitary endeavor, so this was a delight

Finished paintings

I haven't seen David's finished painting yet, but here are mine and Pam's.  And all I can say is, Were we even in the same room?"

Thank you Davie Meier for the great set up

The original set up wasn't working for me, so at the end of the day I rearranged it and added the blue vase.

And thank you again to The Studios of Key West for our fun poolside painting class last week.

The Artistic Approach to Instructions

In general the artist's approach to following instructions is any or all of the following:

Don't read them,
Read them and ignore them,
Read them 10 minutes before the deadline,
Try to "improve" them,
Do what you want and pretend you didn't understand them,
Think they are only for the "other" people.

Or, what I did a few weeks ago,

just skim through them because they are boring.

So when I agreed to participate in the WomanKind BraZaar Benefit I assumed I could deconstruct, cut up, use as collage, or incorporate, a bra in a painting. And when I realized I had to decorate the bra and it had to be wearable I was a little freaked

I really wasn't sure I could do a very good job. But luckily I am one of the world's top authorities on using glitter.*

I loved having the bra in my window for a few days.
It was fun to play it against David Scott Meier's
 "Yellow Straw" ($150)

P.S.  Thank you David Scott Meier for the gift box of glitter last Christmas

P.P.S.  This year's Christmas ornaments are finished and they also have a hint of glitter on them.  I'll show them in an upcoming post.

Dragonflies and roses

I am leaving for vacation on Tuesday. I am headed to North Carolina to see my parents and then to Hilton Head Island to see my son and his wife and my new grand baby, Jacob. I am very excited. So the above photos are of the last load out of the kiln before I go. They are going into the gallery tomorrow. They are a swarm of dragonflies to celebrate the summer. I will try to do some posting while I am gone.

Today is my friend David Scott Meier's birthday. He is such a nice man HE brought ME roses on HIS birthday. He says that the little yellow one is going to smell wonderful. Thank you David for the roses. David is a wonderful friend, and he is an amazing artist. His mixed media work is truly artistic and his design sense is impeccable. Please take a minute to check out his blog.
